In select markets, Poplin gives Laundry Pros the ability to set their own per-pound earnings rate. If you're in one of these markets, then the price you see for an order may reflect your specific Laundry Pro's custom rate, not just the default rate in your area.
Here's how to tell if you're in an area where Laundry Pros can set their own rates, and what it means, if you are.
A Region's Default Rate
Every area Poplin services has a default per-pound rate that reflects local cost of living and market conditions. Most orders are placed and fulfilled at this rate.
How Pricing Works In Regions With Flexible Pricing
When you place an order, Poplin first looks for a Laundry Pro who is available at the default rate shown in your area. If a Laundry Pro accepts your order at that rate, the order proceeds as usual.
If no Laundry Pro accepts at the default rate, you may receive a rate proposal from a Laundry Pro who would like to fulfill your order at their custom rate. These proposals include:
- The Laundry Pro's price per pound
- Their estimated pickup time
You'll be notified if a Pro wishes to accept your order at a higher rate, and you can review the available options and choose one that works best for you.
Do I Have To Accept A Higher Rate?
Not at all!
If a Laundry Pro submits a proposal at a different rate, you're always in control. You can review their proposal thoroughly before making a decision. Just be aware that:
- Proposals expire automatically after 1 hour. If you don't accept the proposal, it will disappear and your order will still be available to other Pros.
- If you accept a proposal, you'll be notified and the Laundry Pro will proceed with your order at the proposed rate.
What About Preferred Laundry Pros?
If you're in an area where Pros can set their own rates and you've selected a Preferred Laundry Pro, you'll see their custom rate listed during order placement.
Because you'll see their pricing before placing your order, there's no additional approval step needed later. If your Preferred Laundry Pro accepts the request, your order will proceed at the rate shown during checkout.
Your Preferred Laundry Pro's rate may be higher than the default rate in your area. If you'd prefer to pay the default rate, you can de-select your Preferred Laundry Pro before placing your order and it will be offered to other available Pros in your area.
Why Laundry Pros Set Their Own Rates
Pricing flexibility is part of how Poplin supports Laundry Pros in building sustainable small businesses as independent contractors. A Laundry Pro who charges a higher rate is often an experienced Pro with a loyal customer base — you're paying for the quality and consistency they've built over time.
Is This Available Everywhere?
Not yet. Pricing autonomy is currently available only in select markets and may not be available in every area where Poplin operates.
