Poplin now offers ironing and steaming as optional add-on services in select areas. Here's everything you need to know.
What Are Ironing & Steaming?
Ironing and steaming are per-item services you can add to your Poplin order to get your clothes returned looking polished and wrinkle-free after they are washed and dried.
Ironing uses direct heat and pressure to smooth and crisp garments — great for dress shirts, pants, and everyday clothing that needs a sharp finish.
Steaming uses heat and moisture to relax wrinkles out of fabric — a gentler option that works well for a wide range of fabrics and is great for refreshing clothes.
Your Laundry Pro will handle each item individually, so these services take more time than standard wash and fold. We think you'll love the results.
How to Add Ironing or Steaming to Your Order
When placing a laundry order, select ironing, steaming, or both from the add-ons menu. You'll enter the number of items for each service.
Pricing is per item and varies by location. Your total will update as you select items.
What to Include in Your Bag
A little preparation goes a long way in helping your Pro do their best work.
Separate your items. Place any items you'd like ironed or steamed in a clearly identifiable way — a separate bag inside your main laundry bag works great, or include a note listing the items. The clearer you make it, the better.
Your Laundry Pro will launder all the items and then iron or steam the selected items.
Include hangers. If you'd like your ironed or steamed items returned on hangers, include them in your bag. Without hangers, your Pro will return items folded. We recommend one hanger per item.
Be accurate with your count. Try to give a close estimate when placing your order — this helps your Pro plan their time and ensures your deadline is set correctly.
Turnaround Time & Deadlines
Because ironing and steaming require individual attention per item, orders with these services may take longer than standard wash and fold.
Deadline extensions are automatic. Once your order reaches a certain number of service items, your delivery deadline will extend up to 48 hours to give your Pro the time they need to do the job well. You'll see any adjusted deadline clearly when you place your order.
Express orders have a limit on the number of items that can be ironed or steamed, and deadlines do not extend for these orders. If your item count exceeds the cap, ironing and steaming won't be available for express.
Orders with a delivery window work the same way as express — there is an item cap and no deadline extension. Your Pro will work within your specified delivery window.
What's Out of Scope
Ironing and steaming are designed for everyday garments. Some items aren't appropriate for at-home ironing or steaming, and your Pro may not be able to service them. If that happens, they'll reach out via chat and the item will be left out of your final charge.
Out of scope for both ironing and steaming:
- Items labeled "dry clean only"
- Leather, suede, or faux leather
- Waxed or coated fabrics
- Items with foam padding, boning, or heavy internal structure
- Heavily beaded, sequined, or embellished garments
- Fur or faux fur
- Wedding dresses and formal gowns
Out of scope for steaming only:
- Velvet
- Military uniforms or garments with intentional pressed creases
If you're unsure whether an item is appropriate, we recommend reaching out to support before placing your order.
Pricing & Charges
Ironing and steaming are priced per item. Your final charge is based on the actual number of items completed — not your original estimate.
- If fewer items are completed than you requested (for example, because an item was out of scope), you'll only be charged for what was done.
- If your Pro completes more items than estimated, you'll be charged for the actual count.
Pricing varies by location and is displayed at checkout.
Damage & Disputes
Ironing and steaming involve direct heat and moisture applied to your garments. While your Laundry Pro will take every care, there are a few things to keep in mind.
Follow the out-of-scope guidelines. Items that are flagged as out of scope are excluded for a reason. Sending items that aren't appropriate for at-home ironing or steaming increases the risk of damage and may affect your ability to dispute an outcome.
Your Pro may reach out before servicing an item. If something looks high-risk or unclear, a good Pro will message you first rather than attempt it. We encourage this. Please respond promptly so your deadline isn't affected.
If something goes wrong: Contact support through the app as you normally would. We'll review what happened, including care label information and any chat history between you and your Pro. Please note that damage resulting from incorrect care label information or items that should have been flagged as out of scope may not be eligible for coverage.
